Tidal Potomac River

No report here this week.

Lake Anna

The lake fished really good right up to the storm then the weather made it very difficult unless you were dragging lines for stripers and drinking coffee or soup while you were doing it. The guys in covered pontoons even had it better. Bass fishing toughened up a little over the weekend but should return very strong this week with the stable weather forecast for this week. My best results came in the Pamunkey fishing brush-piles inside a small cove. We got our fish on a 1/4-oz Booyah football shaky head with a YUM Houdini worm. We just dragged the rig over the brush instead of the traditional shaking method. I tried to duplicate the pattern other places on the lake but could not. So often on the lake patterns are local to a given area and do not transfer to other areas of the lake. That is one of the tricky parts of fishing the lake. The stripers are really chomping and you can find them at the mouth of Terry's Run, Ware Creek, and the mouth of Christopher Run and above.

Other Places

The reason I haven't posted a fishing report in a couple of weeks is because I have been on the road fishing the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series National Championship. In my travels I believe I have found the Utopia of bass fishing. I picked up my new 2010 Nitro Z9 on the Friday before the start of the tournament. I decided to stay over at Table Rock Lake and break my boat in before heading down to Lake Dardanelle in Arkansas. The minute I laid eyes on this place I fell in love. Rocky points, flats, lay-downs, flooded willows, standing timber and the list goes on. Table Rock is home to the big three largemouth, smallmouth, and Kentucky spots. After breaking my boat in I picked an area that looked good and caught a couple smallies on a Booyah spinnerbait. I hung around to watch a local tournament trail  weigh-in. The bags were very impressive and I had a local tell me that it was a tough day (it looked like a tough day on the Potomac if that puts it in perspective). The bag that really got my attention was a limit of spots that weighed 16.86 pounds. They had two spots a little over 4-pounds. If you ever get the chance to go here DO NOT PASS IT UP. I stayed at the Kimberling Inn at Kimberling City, a very nice place and very affordable right on the lake.

Sponsor of the week: Nitro Boats

I just picked up my new Z9 and I cannot begin to put it in words how good it feels to get this ride back under me. I know I sound like a broken record when I talk about the gigantic casting deck, how shallow it floats, the storage (I swear I can haul a small pig in the front center compartment), the performance, rough water ride, the layout, the standard features, the list goes on and at the top of that list are the people in Springfield, MO that build this boat and oversee the process. I've been doing this for a longtime and it is flat out the best all around bass boat I have ever ran, it's not even close.
